How to wash and care for your pillow protectors
Our 100% Cotton pillow protectors can easily be machine washed at home. We recommend washing your pillow protectors before use as our protectors are made slightly oversized to allow for natural cotton shrinkage when first washed.
To keep your Scooms cotton pillow protectors in tip top condition follow these washing guidelines:
- Wash before use and then every 1 - 4 weeks.
- Turn your protectors inside out and close the zip before washing.
- Machine wash at 30° - 40° using non-bio (enzyme free) detergent.
- Fabric softener can reduce the elasticity of the jersey fabric so it is best not to use it but if you do, use it sparingly.
- Wash only with other white cotton bedding. Washing with clothing may cause friction leading to piling. Washing with darker colours may alter the bright white of your pillow protectors.
- Line dry or tumble dry at low/medium heat - use our Wool Dryer Balls to reduce tumble drying time and add a little extra softness without using chemicals.
Top tips for washing your pillow protectors
- Separate your laundry and wash similar colours and fabrics together.
- Don’t over fill your washing machine or tumble dryer. Give them space to do their job.
- Use a good quality laundry detergent which works well at lower temperatures. It's more environmentally friendly.
- Different fabrics dry at different speeds. We suggest tumble drying similar fabrics together.
- Make sure your protectors are fully dry before putting it on your bed or in a cupboard.
Pillow protector FAQS:
Are Pillow Protectors Necessary?Use a pillow protector if you want to extend the life of your pillow by adding a barrier layer between your pillow and pillowcase that helps stop sweat, oils and allergens from settling in your pillow. If you are a hot sleeper or suffer from night sweats, then a pillow protector can be especially useful as it will help to prevent sweat from entering your pillow filling. Should A Pillow Protector Have A Zip Closure?A zip closure is ideal for a pillow protector because it will ensure that your pillow is fully encased. This will provide better protection against unwanted moisture, dirt, dust mites and allergens. Do Pillow Protectors Fit All Pillow Sizes?Pillow protectors come in standard UK pillow sizes - standard (50 x 75cm) and king/super king (50 x 90cm). There is no need to size up with your pillow protector, it’s important to choose the correct size to ensure a snug fit so that it can provide proper protection. Are Pillow Protectors Waterproof? Some pillow protectors are waterproof, while others are water-resistant or breathable. The Scooms pillow protector is not waterproof as we have prioritised quiet natural materials that provide a soft feel, flexible movement and great airflow. |
