Frequently asked questions
View allEgyptian cotton is considered superior to other cottons because its longer fibres (extra-long staple cotton) provide greater durability and strength, making Egyptian cotton bedding more resistant to wear. Egyptian cotton is also more breathable than other cottons, can be woven to a higher thread count and becomes softer with age and washing. This higher quality cotton makes Egyptian cotton bedding a luxurious and worthwhile investment.
Look for the Cotton Egypt Association certification mark on the care label or packaging details, like the 'Egyptian Cotton™' logo on Scooms Egyptian cotton fitted sheets. Avoid vague terms like 'Egyptian-style' or 'cotton blend', and be cautious of very cheap prices. Find out more in our Guide to Egyptian cotton.
Always carefully check the washing instructions on your Egyptian cotton bedding. To care for your Scooms Egyptian cotton bedding:
- Wash at 30°-40° once before use and then weekly.
- (Scooms Egyptian cotton bedding is made slightly oversized to allow for natural washing shrinkage.)
- Tumble dry on low heat or air dry in the sunshine to keep your whites bright.
- Use Wool Tumble Dryer Balls to reduce drying time and creases naturally.
- Iron damp on a high steam iron setting.
