How to refresh your bedroom for Spring

Feeling tired of your bedroom’s decor? Here’s how to reinvigorate your sleeping space and give your room a new lease of life this spring…

DITCH THE "FLOORDROBE"

A busy week has flown by and before you know it there’s a big pile of clothes in the corner and a scattering of books on the floor. A surefire way to restore calm in your bedroom however, is to make sure all your belongings including books, clothes and linens have a place that’s easily accessible and neatly stored. A busy week has flown by and before you know it there’s a big pile of clothes in the corner and a scattering of books on the floor. A surefire way to restore calm in your bedroom however, is to make sure all your belongings including books, clothes and linens have a place that’s easily accessible and neatly stored.

Bedroom Shoe Storage | scoomsTake a tip from Marie Kondo – the best-selling author of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying – and refine your wardrobe and shelves so items aren’t spilling out onto the floor. She suggests going through everything you own and only holding onto the things that ‘spark joy’. You’ll be surprised at how satisfying it is to let go of stuff you no longer need - freeing up space and making you feel more organised and in control.

STREAMLINE SURFACES

Hallway with Spring Sun Shining in Window | scoomsIt’s easy to cover a sideboard, bedside or dressing table with bits and bobs – a face cream, a book, a radio, a few books and a bag of make up perhaps, and before you know it you’re surrounded by ‘stuff’ that makes the room feel busy and not conducive to a relaxing environment. Take a moment to clear the surrounding surfaces of clutter and make sure you have enough storage to keep items that don’t need to be on display neatly hidden away, which will instantly lighten the room and create calm.

EMBRACE NATURE

Bathroom Cabinet with Plants | scoomsBring the outside in with a fresh bunch of flowers or beautiful plant. A large glossy green Elephant Eat Plant (Alocasia Colocasia) houseplant, for example, looks great on the windowsill and its big leaves are a natural air-purifier. A small posy of wild flowers next to your bed is an equally nice feature to wake up to. If you’re not a plant person however, then perhaps a simply stylish botanical print, such as the one shown here, will make you feel closer to nature.

INVEST IN A NATURAL, BREATHABLE MATTRESS AND BEDDING

We spend a third of our life sleeping, so it makes sense to invest in a mattress and bedding that not only looks good, but feels good on your skin and provides a great night’s sleep too. To get the best from your mattress, duvet and pillows choose natural materials with allergen resistance. The scooms duvet, for example, provides the ideal warmth, the right weight and just enough drape to contour your body and it’s simple items like these that can simplify your life and detox your space in an instant.
