Thin duvets for summer

Duvets rolled on a bench to show different thicknesses

Thinking of investing in a thinner summer duvet and want to learn more? If you've put up with being hot and sweaty during warm summer nights in the past, swap to a thinner summer duvet this year for a blissfully cool night's sleep every night!

What is the thinnest duvet that you can get?

Choose a top quality thin down duvet for the comfort of a cool duvet that doesn't weigh heavily on you in bed.

Our scooms 2.5 tog duvet is a great choice if you are looking for a thin and cooling duvet. Hand-filled with just enough of our lovely breathable Hungarian goose down, it's perfect for warm weather sleepers who want a lightweight duvet and available in 4 sizes:

For a little extra thickness, we also offer a slightly higher tog 4.5 tog summer duvet. On very hot, tropical feeling nights, it may be worth considering only using a flat sheet for cover.

What is the thinnest duvet tog?

Duvet tog and duvet thinness are two quite different things. Tog is a measure of how warm a duvet is. Lower tog duvets are less thermally efficient which means they provide less warmth. Duvet thinness measures how thin or thick the duvet is which depends on the amount of filling used and maybe also the thickness of the duvet casing. That's science for you! Our duvet tog guide has more info.

Duvet thinness, density and fill weight

The thickness of a duvet directly relates to how much filling it contains. Our 4.5 tog duvet consists of approximately 38% more filling than our 2.5 tog duvets. While our 9 tog duvet has approximately 64% more filling than our 4.5 tog duvets.

A thin duvet may still feel heavy depending on the filling used. Denser fillings such as wool, low quality down or large feathers can be squashed together resulting in a less breathable and hotter duvet. Man-made duvet fillings such as hollowfiber and microfibre, may feel thin and light but won't be very breathable, so they can still cause you to be hot and sweaty while you sleep.

We hand-fill our duvets with the finest down available. We use naturally hypogenic Hungarian goose down with 10% small white Hungarian goose feather, with high 700 fill power. It makes the perfect choice if you want the very best duvet.

Benefits of thin summer duvets

  • Comfiness and coolness: Yes, you can avoid hot and sweaty night's with the right thin duvet.
  • Breathability: Our down filling is the most breathable duvet filling you can get, ensuring a cool and comfortable night's sleep even when it's sweltering.
  • Versatility and flexibility: All our duvets come with buttonholes and cufflinks, so you can build your own duvet thickness and tog rating by joining any two scooms duvets together.
  • Ease of care: Thin duvets are less bulky and therefore easier to wash at home. All scooms duvets are machine washable.
  • Space saving: Thinner duvets are easier to store. All our duvets come with a lovely breathable storage bag.

Pairing your thin duvet with other bedding

Stay cool and fresh by carefully choosing the right bed linen, pillows and accessories to complement your duvet.

Duvet cover, sheets and pillowcases: Look for bed linen that is breathable and moisture-wicking. Natural materials like Egyptian cotton or linen are best. Avoid heavy fabrics that may trap heat and make you feel too warm during the night.

Mattress protector: A breathable cotton mattress protector is a good idea. They add an extra layer of comfort and can help protect your mattress. Make sure your protector is 100% cotton for optimum breathability. Note always check the label as many protectors claim to be cotton but are sneakily mixed with synthetic fibres.

Pillows: Your head can also get hot at night so a breathable pillow is important. We recommend Hungarian goose down pillows.

Silk eye masks: A luxurious Mulberry silk eye mask is also a good idea when the nights are lighter.

Throws and blankets: We don't recommend putting throws and blankets on top of your down duvets as the weight can squash the essential air gaps in the down clusters, creating a less breathable filing that traps more heat and moisture.
