How to Choose the Best Duvet

The ten most important things to think about when buying a duvet.

Warmth:

Free next day UK delivery + 60 night trial

Handmade in Hungary, our duvet is plumply filled with the finest, ethically sourced goose down and covered in oh-so-soft sateen cotton that’s also dust mite-proof. Gram for gram, goose down is the most perfect temperature regulator which is why our duvet is so naturally breathable. Feel toasty in winter yet nicely cool on summery nights. We offer a 60 sleeps' trial, so you can make sure you love it.

Our Hungarian goose down duvet comes in:

  • 4 sizes - Single, Double, King & Super king
  • A range of togs - 9 tog, 4.5 tog, 2.5 tog
  • 3 all-season sets - 13.5 tog (9 + 4.5), 11.5 (9 + 2.5) & 7 tog (4.5 + 2.5)

100% Hungarian goose down & feather duvets designed by Emily & Jonathan in the UK and made in small batches in Hungary using renewable energy. Each duvet has an Original Hungarian Goose Down tag and QR code for guaranteed traceability.

Materials:

  • Filling: 90% Hungarian goose down & 10% selected small white Hungarian goose feather.
  • Fill power: 700 high fill power.
  • Cover: 100% super soft sateen cotton for rustle-free nights.
  • Thread count: 300 thread count with a special tight dust mite proof weave.
  • All season duvets: Includes a pack of cufflink fasteners. (All our duvets come with buttonholes so any different tog duvets can be fixed together.)
  • Feet labels: To let you know which way round your duvet goes. (We recommend turning your duvet around when you wash your duvet cover so that the feet label is at the top.)

Fill weight - not total duvet weight:

  • Single: 9 tog - 486g, 4.5 tog - 302g, 2.5 tog - 220g
  • Double: 9 tog - 720g, 4.5 tog - 448g, 2.5 tog - 320g
  • King: 9 tog - 911g, 4.5 tog - 567g, 2.5 tog - 400g
  • Super King: 9 tog - 1030g, 4.5 tog - 641g, 2.5 tog - 480g

Care:

  • Shake your duvet after opening and then daily to keep the goose down fluffy and airy, and insulating at its best.
  • Protect your duvet with a duvet cover, preferably breathable cotton or linen. (An overly tight protector or cover can squash the down and affect the loft.)
  • Pull back your covers every morning to allow your down duvet to breathe and moisture to evaporate.
  • Machine wash at 40° every 6-12 months.
  • Line dry or tumble dry on a low heat setting for around 90 minutes, shake well, then hang to finish drying for 24 hours.
  • Replace your duvet every 5 to 7 years for maximum loft & insulation.
  • Love your Scooms duvet and it will love you.

See our guide to How to clean your duvet.

high quality, great service, I feel like they are my friends.

high quality, great service, I feel like they are my friends. I ordered a 9 tog duvet, medium soft pillows 60/70 and large 50/90. I bought French linen, which is extremely soft, noble and firm. The products are more than wonderful, simple in appearance, but full of quality. Now I am also expecting Egyptian cotton. I ordered 4 more pillows 50/70. I will furnish all beds only with these products. The service is impressive, they respond to me personally, with respect and with good feeling. I am very impressed, I would like to know them! I recommend them to everyone who is looking for down and linen and cotton.

The perfect comforter for a hot, humid climate!

We live in a humid climate that rarely has sustained cold temps. Nearly every down comforter we have tried--even those labeled "summer season"--has been too warm. We have finally found a quality down comforter that is just right for our warm climate. It is incredibly soft and light weight yet still enough loft to feel cozy. Thank you, Scooms!

amazing

This duvet is the best ever. Warm and light and of a properly big size (we bought super king). The shipping was incredibly fast and well communicated. Highly recommended.

Excellent product.

I have had a number of hungarian goosedown duvets over the years but I am pleased with the combination as I am using the 2.5 tog and that is light enough in the hot weather then I will combine the two for cold winter weather.

Why we love Hungarian goose down duvets

Goose down has evolved over 1000s of years to be the world’s best natural insulator. It's finer, warmer and softer than duck down. It's also biodegradable. Our Hungarian goose down is a by-product of the food industry, ethically sourced, traceable and rigorously tested. It's from mature geese so the down clusters are large and dense, resulting in high 700 fill power. We've added 10% small white goose feather to give our duvet a bit of weight so that it doesn't float away during the night. Hello good night's sleep...

Ethically sourced Hungarian goose down and small white goose feather filling with a 300 thread count 100% Supersoft sateen cotton casing.

Our cotton casing is crafted with an especially tight weave to make it dust mite and down feather proof. Approved by the experts at Nomite.

Naturally breathable and moisture wicking Hungarian goose down and goose feather provides three to four times more air circulation than synthetic fillings.

Baffle stitching gives the down filling in our 9 tog duvet pockets extra space; while box stitching for our lighter tog duvets allows the down just the right amount of loft.

Frequently asked questions

View all

Trying to figure out which way round your duvet goes in your duvet cover can be a real puzzle. We've added feet labels to our duvets so you'll never get confused again! But make sure you turn your duvet around each time you wash the duvet cover, so the feet end switches with the head end. This will help to maintain an even amount of loft/fluffiness. See our guide for more tips on How to put on a duvet cover.

No! The 100% cotton casing on our duvet has a special tight weave to make it both down and dust mite proof so you would only very rarely find a feather that manages to escape. Each duvet is double stitched so they are robust and durable.

The 10% white feather we use in our duvets is high quality and deliberately small in size so that the quills are soft. Our down and feather filling is also sewn into multiple pockets, trapping the filling in individual pockets to ensure an even spread across the duvet.

All our duvets come with buttonholes so you can fix two together with our pull apart cufflink fasteners. To fix 2 duvets together, lay one on top of the other so that the buttonholes match, then attach each part of the fastener to the outer sides of each buttonhole and push the fasteners together. We recommend attaching one fastener to each duvet corner and then 3 on each side for double, king and super king size duvets. See our Duvet fastener guide for full instructions.

No, Scooms goose down duvets are not noisy and there is no rustle or crinkle when you move around. Our duvets are encased in 100% Supersoft sateen cotton which won't make a noise when you or your other half roll over...

No, Scooms goose down duvets don’t smell. We gently wash our goose down and feather in only natural thermal spring water, so there is no animal, feather or chemical smell.

Yes, our duvet and pillow are suitable for house dust mite allergy sufferers and independently approved by the experts: Certified by Nomite.

Responsible Down Standard - Yes, our duvet, pillow and mattress topper filling adheres to the RDS independent, voluntary global standard ensuring that the down and feathers come from geese that have been treated well; following the chain of custody from farm to product. See our full guide to our Ethically sourced goose down.

Our duvet, pillow and mattress topper goose down and feather filling is from a single country source - Hungary - and is a by-product of the food industry.

Every Scooms duvet and pillow comes with an Original Hungarian Goose Down tag and QR code for guaranteed traceability.
